Just warming up with this new wacom I've recently purchased.

These past 2 months flew by so quick, slow down please! Actually you know what, forget that last bit. Spring, hurry your ass up! It's about 1:43am and I'm slightly tipsy right now, but I figured why not update the blog and post some pictures.

Slowly getting things together for the shop section.

A nice chunk of hair just dying to be hung up on gallery walls. Custom framing is going hurt like a bitch.

I've recently moved into a small studio apt in Brooklyn, which makes my commute to work a hell of a lot easier. No more wasting 2 hrs everyday on the commuter bus. Plus, having a bar/lounge around the corner just makes it too easy.

I'm finally here to update you with some images from the past show @ destination Art Space. I was smart enough to leave my camera's memory card on my desk and so I was left with only 4 shots to take (plus i believe the wine restricted me from doing so). Just want to thank those who were able to take some photos that night and letting me steal them!

...so that's it. i'm officially out of that "loop," and off to the real world.

is it really that bad out there?

i guess that the great thing about my profession is that it's really organic. i get to be my own boss, work in own studio (aka bedroom)...shit i can even work on an assignment in my boxes. but now it's time get serious and stop waking up at 1pm.

last week was really hectic with all the portfolio reviews. i hope everyone did well! if i had the chance, i would have definitely gone out to check out the SVA computer art screening. my boy Joji had his piece shown at the Walter Reade Theater over at Lincoln Center. i'm sure people wet their pants when they saw the film. it was very original and the concept was great because it was really simple and sweet. the graphics were stunning, and it surely felt like i was watching some pixar production, with a lil hint of miyazaki. um...fucking ridiculous. hey Joji, i'm looking forward to that collab in the near future.

Lilium Urbanus is a collaborative piece created by Joji Tsuruga and Anca Risca. 3 thumbs up.

This is my 2nd time to custom one of those vinyl dolls. This particular MUNNY was an assignment to try and showcase a particular fashion icon, without having it be figurative. I chose Amy Winehouse as my "icon" because she has that crazy bee hive hairdo. I figured it'd be cool to draw her hair (since I'm still in that hair phase) all over the doll to break the figurative form and keep it more abstract.

To be honest, her music isn't that bad at all. Her crackhead image just throws me off.

6 coats of gesso and sanding took forever!

Surface design is not as easy as you think, especially when you're using just graphite alone.

The finish piece! Note to self: next time wear gloves to avoid smudges.

This semester I have been working on a bunch of cover art series as part of my portfolio. This piece was done for a poem called Manfred, music played by some symphonic orchestra I forget...

Wikipedia:

Manfred is a Faustian noble living in the Bernese Alps. Internally tortured by some mysterious guilt, which has to do with the death of his most beloved, Astarte, he uses his mastery of language and spell-casting to summon seven spirits, from whom he seeks forgetfulness. (Some speculate that the relationship between him and Astarte is incestuous, and/or that Manfred had murdered Astarte, but this is not made explicit in the play, though the implicit suggestions are quite strong). The spirits, who rule the various components of the corporeal world, are unable to control past events and thus cannot grant Manfred's plea. For some time, fate prevents him from escaping his guilt through suicide. At the end, Manfred dies defying religious temptations of redemption from sin. Throughout the play, he succeeds in challenging all authoritative powers he comes across, and chooses death over submitting to spirits of higher powers. Manfred directs his final words to the Abbot, remarking, "Old man! 't is not so difficult to die."

Wikipedia: term used to refer to various objects. It is of Hindu origin, but is also used in other Dharmic religions, such as Buddhism. In the Tibetan branch of Vajrayana Buddhism, they have been developed into sandpainting. In practice, mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the universe from the human perspective. A mandala, especially its center, can be used during meditation as an object for focusing attention. The symmetrical geometric shapes tend to draw the attention towards their center. Psychiatrist Carl Jung saw the mandala as "a representation of the unconscious self," and believed his paintings of mandalas enabled him to identify emotional disorders and work towards wholeness in personality.

Basically the objective was to create your own personal mandala, for meditation. Thanks to various projects, such as the junior thesis, I spent very little time working on this... actually probably only about a good 3 hours (the assignment was given about a month ago). Not that I care, but I'd like to at least try to pull something a little more crazy. But shit, its only Asian Philosophy class.
